About the Role

Freenow by Lyft is seeking a Data Lead for its FinTech Product organization to spearhead a data-centric strategy for financial products and fraud prevention. This role involves leveraging data to balance growth, user experience, and marketplace risk, ensuring payment, payout, and fraud prevention systems are secure, scalable, and performant. The position is within a multinational, diverse, and collaborative team of data professionals.

Responsibilities

Lead a dynamic cross-functional data team comprising Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and Data Engineers.
Empower and coach the team to deliver optimal results across critical FinTech domains.
Identify, understand, structure, and solve complex problems across payments, fraud prevention, credit risk, and payout operations using strategic thinking.
Improve and productionize high-value data products.
Own and advance fraud prevention data procedures, balancing customer experience with risk mitigation.
Guide the team in identifying fraud patterns, building creditworthiness models, and balancing prevention with user conversion.
Motivate the team to deliver data products by focusing on outcomes and ensuring informed decision-making.
Align with stakeholders to deliver maximum impact with available capacities.
Launch valuable experiments with reliable test designs and use statistical methods to measure feature impact.
Ensure correct changes are launched in financial products.
Mentor and coach team members to foster professional growth and a continuous learning mindset.
Steer FinTech products' data strategy, informing feature development and changes for safe, scalable, and efficient financial flows.

Requirements

Curiosity to understand the 'why' behind events and drive actionable results.
Previous experience leading and developing high-performing data teams, preferably in tech, product, or FinTech.
Experience managing cross-functional teams with mixed data disciplines (Analysts, Scientists, Engineers).
Exceptional analytical skills, lateral thinking, and proven experience in solving challenging problems.
History of leading and supporting successful data projects.
Ability to clearly define and communicate project objectives, resources, timelines, and methodologies.
Understanding of payment processes, fraud prevention, and credit risk.
Familiarity with industry standards, fraud patterns, and creditworthiness modeling is advantageous.
Hands-on mentality and proactive approach to accelerating insight generation.
Very good knowledge of SQL, databases, and statistical programming tools (e.g., Python, R).
Good understanding and hands-on experience in analyzing and interpreting A/B test results with statistical knowledge.
Experience in causal methodologies is a plus.
Ability to engage and influence decision-makers using data visualization and storytelling.
Excellent English communication skills for interacting and coordinating with stakeholders.
