About the Role

We are building an AI-powered financial crime investigation platform to transform how Ebury's compliance teams operate. This platform will utilize AI agents to process thousands of screening cases, aiming to reduce analyst workload while adhering to regulatory standards. We are seeking a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to contribute to scaling this platform and elevating engineering practices. The role involves architecting and delivering complex features across the full stack, including React frontends, Python backends, and LLM integrations, alongside mentoring team members and influencing technical strategy. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI/ML, fintech, and compliance, developing production AI systems for large-scale financial crime investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and build end-to-end features across our React frontend and FastAPI backend, making sound technical decisions that balance speed with maintainability
  • Design AI agent workflows using LangGraph for screening automation, RAG pipelines, and multi-agent orchestration
  • Lead technical initiatives, owning complex features from design to production and breaking down ambiguous problems into actionable work
  • Integrate complex data sources (internal APIs, third-party services like LexisNexis, data warehouse) with robust error handling and observability
  • Improve platform reliability by implementing monitoring, alerting, and performance optimizations for production AI systems
  • Mentor and uplift junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance
  • Shape engineering practices by contributing to architecture decisions, coding standards, and team processes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Compliance, and other engineering teams to deliver impactful solutions

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong React + TypeScript skills, including architecting complex frontend applications with good state management, performance, and testing
  • Strong Python backend experience (FastAPI, Django, or Flask) with async programming, clean architecture, and production-grade code
  • System design skills, including the ability to design scalable, maintainable systems and articulate trade-offs
  • API design expertise (REST, WebSockets/SSE) and understanding of distributed systems patterns
  • Database proficiency (SQL and NoSQL like DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch), including query optimization and data modeling
  • A testing mindset, writing comprehensive tests and advocating for quality across the team
  • Ownership mentality, taking features from idea to production and proactively identifying and solving problems
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, and write clear documentation
  • Mentorship ability, with experience guiding less experienced engineers
  • LLM/AI experience (LangChain, LangGraph, RAG pipelines, prompt engineering, or fine-tuning) is a plus
  • Experience with production AI systems (LLM observability like Langfuse, token management, streaming, and reliability patterns) is a plus
  • AWS expertise (Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, Bedrock, or similar cloud services) is a plus
  • Experience with streaming architectures (SSE, WebSockets, event-driven systems) is a plus
  • Fintech/compliance background (AML, sanctions screening, KYC, or regulated industry experience) is a plus
  • Micro-frontend experience (Module Federation, independent deployability) is a plus
  • Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, CDK, or similar) is a plus
