About the Role

PIMCO's Alternatives platform is a key strategic growth area, and the Alternatives Funds Tax team supports this expansion by providing tax planning and structuring for private equity and hedge funds. This role focuses on fund launches, deal structuring, and compliance oversight, offering significant visibility and partnership opportunities across various departments and external providers. The position allows for early engagement in investment structuring and decision-making, impacting performance, scalability, and business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with investment, product, and legal teams on tax structuring of new fund launches for private equity and hedge funds.
  • Support deal tax structuring and execution, providing tax insight on acquisitions, dispositions, and complex investment strategies.
  • Contribute to tax modeling and analysis for prospective investors in new product initiatives.
  • Work with fund counsel and provide tax input on fund documentation.
  • Oversee and coordinate with external tax advisors for timely and accurate K-1 delivery and investor reporting.
  • Respond to investor and internal stakeholder inquiries on tax matters clearly and practically.
  • Support tax and compliance oversight, including tax provisions and estimated payments for corporate entities.
  • Coordinate with service providers and fund finance on withholding tax analysis for non-US investors.
  • Monitor and support compliance with REIT/RIC structures.
  • Review tax carried interest calculations and support related tax distribution processes.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance workflows, strengthen controls, mitigate tax risks, and scale the tax operating model.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to leverage data, automation, and AI for enhanced decision-making and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
  • 10-15 years of experience in tax, with a foundation in public accounting and/or a combination of public and in-house experience.
  • Strong experience with partnership and corporate taxation, including U.S. federal, state, and international tax considerations within large fund structures.
  • Experience with multi-tiered partnership structures, including private equity, hedge funds, and/or real estate, as well as related state tax compliance and withholding requirements.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a high-volume, high pressure and fast paced growing business environment.
  • Proven ability to translate technical tax concepts into actionable business insights, with the judgment to identify risks and develop practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and interest in understanding the business beyond tax, with a forward-looking, solution-oriented mindset.
