About the Role

Provide legal guidance related to commercial and technology deals, product commercialization, regulatory compliance, and legal risk management at a dynamic FinTech company. Evaluate, analyze, and advise on legal risks while balancing operational and economic goals. Collaborate with the team to address legal matters and other arising issues.

Responsibilities

• Advise leadership and internal clients on privacy, intellectual property, technology, marketing, commercial, and corporate law.
• Negotiate, draft, and interpret commercial agreements with clients, partners, and vendors.
• Manage actual or threatened litigation and guide dispute resolution.
• Identify, analyze, and respond to legislative and regulatory developments.
• Assist on corporate M&A and legal due diligence.
• Create and maintain precedent agreements.
• Lead knowledge management initiatives to improve Legal team efficiency and service delivery.
• Handle customer and partner issues and escalations.
• Manage external counsel for performance and cost control.

Requirements

• University Law Degree and current membership in good standing with the Barreau du Québec or the Ontario Bar.
• Bilingual in English and French (reading, writing, and verbal).
• 3-6 years of legal experience, with a blend of law firm and in-house experience.
• Payment industry or FinTech experience is considered an asset.
• Expertise in drafting contracts and negotiation of terms.
• Ability to constructively manage difficult conversations and resolve issues.
• Ability to prioritize and work on multiple deals/files.
