About the Role

The Steward/Dishwasher is primarily responsible for maintaining kitchen cleanliness, equipment, and tools, as well as organizing the kitchen. This role also involves washing dishes, removing trash and recyclables, sweeping and mopping floors, and cleaning equipment to ensure the kitchen and dishwashing areas are inspection-ready.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, well maintained, and organized.
  • Ensure floors are dry and clean at all times.
  • Operate dish-washing machinery and maintain a hygienic working environment.
  • Adhere to all sanitation guidelines.
  • Assist the Cooks and Servers as needed.
  • Collect and remove trash from all areas of the operation.
  • Dispose of waste according to hotel and authority standards and adhere to recycling guidelines.
  • Ensure the waste bin storage area is always kept clean and tidy.
  • Carry out general cleaning, including sweeping, mopping, washing up, and emptying rubbish bins and boxes.
  • Clean and sanitize pots, pans, utensils, and other minor kitchen equipment.
  • Clean and maintain floors and walls in the kitchen and dishwashing area.
  • Clean and sanitize dishes and related service ware.
  • Clean large equipment as assigned.
  • Consistently adhere to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information for chemical use.
  • Operate industrial dishwashers.
  • Ensure all equipment is clean and in good working order.
  • Check all chemical levels and inventory.
  • Wash, wipe, sort, and stack dishes, and load/unload the dishwasher.
  • Wash, wipe, sort, stack, and store all cleaned items in an organized and safe manner.
  • Remove breakages or chipped items from circulation and update the breakage and inventory register.
  • Clean, sanitize, and close workstations.
  • Use and maintain all equipment according to manufacturer and department guidelines.
  • Report any maintenance or hazard issues to the chief steward/stewarding manager.
  • Assist in light food preparation as directed.
  • Assist in serving food and beverages to residents in the dining room.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a positive attitude.
  • Must communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to work under pressure.
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Must be able to work efficiently with limited supervision.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is required.
  • Knowledge of basic food hygiene is required.
  • Must be able to occasionally move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to detect objects close-up and at a distance, determine color and depth, and observe surroundings.
  • Employee may be exposed to various allergens.
  • Must be able to spend the majority of time on feet and maintain a stationary position or move without a break for up to six (6) hours.
