About the Role
The maintenance engineer is responsible for hotel guestroom preventive maintenance and assists in the repairs and maintenance of hotel equipment. This role also handles the repair, maintenance, upkeep, and replacement of the property's cosmetic materials, including interior/exterior painting, woodwork patching, and furniture refinishing, all in accordance with hotel standards.
Responsibilities
- Respond to all guest requests in a timely and efficient manner.
- Complete work order requests promptly.
- Maintain all mechanical areas in an orderly and clean condition.
- Inspect public areas daily for any issues.
- Perform repairs including plumbing, electrical, heating, cooling, ventilation, furnishing and fixtures, painting, wall cover repairs, light carpentry, and door and window repairs.
- Maintain par stock levels of standard paint, brushes, wallpapers, stains, sign lettering, and other supplies.
- Communicate requisition needs to Chief Engineer/Supervisor.
- Maintain complete knowledge of appropriate paint and adhesive types for various surfaces.
- Utilize the latest techniques for mixing formulas for paints, acrylics, epoxies, sealers, concrete paints, stains, and varnishes.
- Understand ventilation and storage of flammable and toxic materials.
- Prepare and apply all types of latex, enamels, etc., to repair and maintain painted surfaces and items.
- Install and repair vinyl and wallpaper.
- Strip and refinish Guest Room furniture.
- Maintain proper use, cleaning, maintenance, and storage of all tools and supplies.
- Manage the Rooms Preventative Maintenance Program and maintain updated records.
- Possess knowledge of swimming pool maintenance and chemicals.
- Effectively and professionally communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
- Follow company policies and procedures.
- Perform skilled repair and maintenance operations using power tools, hand tools, and welding equipment.
- Maintain working spaces in a safe and clean condition.
- Know hotel emergency procedures and the location of all emergency shut-offs.
- Assist hotel guests during emergencies.
- Complete special projects as assigned within set timeframes.
- Support environmental commitments by demonstrating knowledge, skills, and values to be a leader in 'greening' the hospitality industry.
- Identify and address safety hazards.
- Be ready and willing to complete the job as necessary.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Prior maintenance experience.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of general repairs and maintenance.
- Very good interpersonal and communication skills for interfacing with guests and staff.
- Flexibility to work all shifts.
- Availability to work overtime on occasion when the department is short of staff.
- Ability to listen, learn, be helpful, and make sound decisions to resolve potential problems.
