About the Role

Responsibilities

Prepare complex personal and business tax returns.
Review tax returns and work files for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
Communicate with and train staff on areas needing improvement.
Monitor tax deadlines to ensure timely preparation of returns.
Communicate with managers during preparation to identify tax issues and ensure timely technical review.
Perform tax research and train staff on research methodologies.
Schedule annual tax research training sessions for all tax staff.
Understand and complete steps for conducting research projects.
Prepare written conclusions for research projects, subject to Manager or Principal review.
Assist audit and accounting staff with non-complex tax questions.
Understand tax accruals.
Respond to IRS or state tax notices.
Train interns and staff to prepare effective responses to tax notices.
Review responses to tax notices for accuracy.
Supervise workflow of Tax Accountants/Interns on less complex returns.
Identify problems and opportunities for research or work beyond compliance.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting required; Masters in Tax is a plus.
CPA license is a plus.
Minimum of 3 years tax experience within a public accounting firm.
Experience servicing complex individuals / 1040 returns and business clients (mix of S Corps and Partnership returns).
Experience with all different entity types.
Working knowledge of Paperless systems such as GoFileRoom.
Working knowledge of tax software such as Caseware & ProSystems.
Professional demeanor with excellent communication skills.
Enjoy working with people and understand the importance of nurturing and building the firm's clientele.
Ethical, conscientious, detail-oriented, and well-organized.
