About the Role

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) at Equifax combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems. SRE ensures internal and external services meet reliability and performance expectations while adhering to Equifax engineering principles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage system uptime across cloud-native (AWS, GCP) and hybrid architectures.
  • Build infrastructure as code (IAC) patterns using Terraform, cloud CLI scripting, and cloud SDK programming.
  • Build CI/CD pipelines for application and cloud architecture patterns using Jenkins and cloud-native toolchains.
  • Build automated tooling to deploy service requests and push changes into production.
  • Build comprehensive runbooks for detecting, remediating, and restoring services.
  • Solve problems and triage complex distributed architecture service maps.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for high-severity application incidents and improve runbooks to reduce MTTR.
  • Lead blameless postmortems for availability incidents and own remediation actions.
  • Design, code, verify, test, document, and modify complex programs, scripts, and integrated software services.
  • Contribute to the selection of software development methods, tools, and techniques.
  • Apply SRE standards and tools to achieve well-engineered results.
  • Participate in reviews of own work and lead reviews of colleagues' work.
  • Develop work plans for short-term assignments of moderate complexity.
  • Continuously monitor and measure systems against key metrics to ensure availability.
  • Seek new ways to improve process efficiency and speed.
  • Build and maintain an understanding of technology trends to identify factors that achieve system availability expectations.
  • Articulate complex messages and impacts to stakeholders to build support and agreement.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, tailoring communication to specific audiences.
  • Work collaboratively to achieve results and address conflict with a focus on the best solution.
  • Apply a methodical approach to routine and moderately complex issue definition and resolution.
  • Initiate and monitor actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems, processes, and services.
  • Determine problem fixes and remedies.
  • Coordinate the implementation of agreed remedies.
  • Analyze patterns and trends.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent job experience required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in software engineering, systems administration, database administration, and networking.
  • 2+ years of experience developing and/or administering software in public cloud.
  • Experience in monitoring infrastructure and application uptime and availability.
  • Experience in languages such as Python, Bash, Java, Go, JavaScript and/or node.js.
  • Demonstrable cross-functional knowledge with systems, storage, networking, security and databases.
  • System administration skills, including automation and orchestration of Linux/Windows using Terraform, Chef, Ansible and/or containers (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).
  • Proficiency with continuous integration and continuous delivery tooling and practices.
