About the Role
The Custodian will be responsible for performing cleaning duties and operations in academic buildings, residence halls, and grounds according to established standards and instructions, under the direct supervision of the Facilities Services Custodial Shift Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Clean restrooms including floors, walls, tiles, ceiling, doors, vents, fixtures, and mirrors.
- Replenish restroom supplies.
- Dispose of trash and recyclables from assigned areas.
- Clean and maintain walls, floors, doors, frames, and glass surfaces in various campus locations.
- Maintain floors and carpets, including sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing.
- Move and transport custodial supplies, furniture, equipment, materials, and boxes as directed.
- Move and arrange furniture, equipment, and supplies for events.
- Perform cleaning and setup of residential hall rooms for academic year and summer months.
- Coordinate room cleaning for arriving groups to ensure readiness for students.
- Shovel snow and apply snow melt to clear walkways, paths, sidewalks, and building entrances during snow events.
- Comply with College rules, Facilities Services policies, and safety regulations.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Requires general knowledge of cleaning terms and safety procedures for handling chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
- Must be well-organized and able to prioritize work.
- Must be able to remain calm during stressful conditions.
- Must be able to respect privacy and confidentiality of occupants in private offices and residences.
- Ability to read and write English and follow oral and written instructions.
- Able to bend, stoop, push, pull, lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
- Requires average physical strength.
- Ability to climb stairs.
Skills
- Experience in use of mechanical cleaning equipment.
- Experience operating floor stripper and polisher.
- Experience operating carpet extractor.
- Experience operating water vacuum.
- Experience operating vacuum cleaner.
- Experience with cleaning solutions and chemicals.
