About the Role

The Director of the People and Animals Living Safely (PALS) Program oversees daily operations and growth of the program within URI’s residences for survivors of gender-based violence and homeless families. This role leads the 'PALS for All' training and technical assistance initiative, manages staff, and collaborates with leadership to develop best practices at the intersection of gender-based violence, housing insecurity, and animal welfare.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inclusive leadership and management to PALS program managers.
  • Cultivate staff professional development, mentorship, and career pathways.
  • Partner with Centralized Intake to integrate PALS into justice initiatives.
  • Support program managers in addressing animal health, welfare, and crisis intervention.
  • Ensure compliance with grant reporting and deliverables.
  • Develop and achieve annual department goals aligned with the agency strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with Justice Initiative and residential program leaders to promote coordination.
  • Create innovative, survivor-led, and equity-based program solutions.
  • Develop and implement consistent client service standards and policies.
  • Monitor budget performance and partner with Finance on modifications.
  • Participate in fund development activities and collaborate with Development and Government Affairs.
  • Train staff on accurate and timely client data entry.
  • Manage KPI dashboards and evaluate data for equity and program progress.
  • Refine database forms and reports to improve tracking and impact reporting.
  • Engage with cross-sector partners to address homelessness and gender-based violence.
  • Represent the agency on coalitions and committees focused on social services and animal welfare.
  • Lead the expansion of co-sheltering efforts across NYC housing facilities.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in domestic and gender-based violence or related settings.
  • 2+ years of experience or extensive knowledge of animal welfare.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience of direct service staff.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior, welfare, and NYC pet guardian resources.
  • Experience with public speaking regarding the human-animal bond.
  • Demonstrated trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach to advocacy.
  • Sensitivity to domestic violence issues within disenfranchised communities.
  • Willingness to travel to program sites across NYC and Westchester.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Apricot database.
