About the Role

The Canada Waste Business Development Lead will support the development and implementation of Solid Waste business strategies in the region, collaborating with various leadership roles to advance the waste program. This role involves initiating communication, supporting strategies to grow the waste market sector, and driving meaningful changes in the waste industry.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Waste Sector strategic and tactical planning activities.
  • Develop strategic positioning with individual areas in the region.
  • Identify and assess regional marketplace opportunities.
  • Gauge HDR prospects and develop prioritized client targets.
  • Leverage industry contacts to expand relationships with HDR waste staff and clients.
  • Support, lead, and/or participate in direct project pursuits.
  • Develop targeted client relationships and premarketing efforts.
  • Prepare qualifications, proposals, interview content, scopes of work, project budgets, and contract negotiations.
  • Coordinate with sustainability leadership on project proposal support and budgets.
  • Participate in local and regional project pursuits with waste planning activities.
  • Prepare statement of qualifications, technical approaches, proposals, and interviews.
  • Perform quality control reviews of project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with leadership to train and mentor planning personnel.
  • Perform direct billable work on waste projects.
  • Participate on project teams as a Project Manager for Solid Waste Planning.
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection of waste staff.
  • Identify key talent in the waste market and assist with recruitment and retention.
  • Perform other duties to support the Sector and Solid Waste Planning Practice.
  • Leverage existing HDR resources for cross-sector and multi-business class collaboration.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 15 years relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated 'self-starter' with a history of completing projects with limited oversight.
  • Deep knowledge of the A/E/C industry's standard approach to procurement of professional services.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a network of clients and industry partners.
  • Experience in sales and developing effective win strategies.
  • Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability and desire to travel and engage with others in-person.
  • Demonstrated experience in growing programs in new or highly competitive markets.
  • Demonstrated experience in winning high-value contracts in the A/E/C industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing compelling content based on information from technical staff.
