About the Role

Lone Star Materials, a subsidiary of Lone Star Paving, is seeking a Heavy Paving Equipment/Diesel Mechanic (NON-DOT) to maintain company-owned tools, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring they are in good working order. This role supports the Milling, Asphalt, Trucking, and Maintenance Teams in the Central Texas region.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the condition of defective tools, equipment, and fleet vehicles.
  • Collaborate with the Equipment Manager to troubleshoot defective equipment and find solutions.
  • Prepare cost estimates for extensive repairs and seek authorization before commencing.
  • Perform routine maintenance on company-owned tools, equipment, and vehicles according to a standard schedule.
  • Keep accurate logs of all maintenance performed.
  • Place approved orders for replacement parts with vendors.
  • Ensure the shop area is neat, clean, and orderly at the end of each day.
  • Store all tools in their proper place.
  • Keep shop surfaces free of trash and debris.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid and clear driver's license.
  • Experience with diagnostics, maintenance, and operation of asphalt, milling, and trucking equipment and vehicles.
  • Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Must be positive, friendly, and professional.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting.
  • Promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety policy.
  • Encourage all employees, subcontractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner.
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees.
  • Collaborate with project teams on special initiatives as required.
  • Comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required at all times.

Skills

  • Maintenance of diesel equipment, particularly trucking machinery.
  • Familiarity with paving operations in heavy highways.
  • Dependability and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently with exemplary work ethic.
  • Familiarity with Texas area and roadways.
  • Understanding of the complexities of the trucking and asphalt industries.
  • Knowledge of how equipment and vehicles operate and are maintained.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment.
  • Understanding of operations and safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations is a plus.
