About the Role
Lone Star Materials, a subsidiary of Lone Star Paving, is seeking a Heavy Paving Equipment/Diesel Mechanic (NON-DOT) to maintain company-owned tools, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring they are in good working order. This role supports the Milling, Asphalt, Trucking, and Maintenance Teams in the Central Texas region.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate the condition of defective tools, equipment, and fleet vehicles.
- Collaborate with the Equipment Manager to troubleshoot defective equipment and find solutions.
- Prepare cost estimates for extensive repairs and seek authorization before commencing.
- Perform routine maintenance on company-owned tools, equipment, and vehicles according to a standard schedule.
- Keep accurate logs of all maintenance performed.
- Place approved orders for replacement parts with vendors.
- Ensure the shop area is neat, clean, and orderly at the end of each day.
- Store all tools in their proper place.
- Keep shop surfaces free of trash and debris.
Requirements
- Possess a valid and clear driver's license.
- Experience with diagnostics, maintenance, and operation of asphalt, milling, and trucking equipment and vehicles.
- Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset.
- Must be positive, friendly, and professional.
- Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting.
- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety policy.
- Encourage all employees, subcontractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner.
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees.
- Collaborate with project teams on special initiatives as required.
- Comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required at all times.
Skills
- Maintenance of diesel equipment, particularly trucking machinery.
- Familiarity with paving operations in heavy highways.
- Dependability and reliability.
- Ability to work independently with exemplary work ethic.
- Familiarity with Texas area and roadways.
- Understanding of the complexities of the trucking and asphalt industries.
- Knowledge of how equipment and vehicles operate and are maintained.
- Ability to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
- Professional communication skills.
- Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment.
- Understanding of operations and safety requirements.
- Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations is a plus.
