About the Role

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Scientist of Macrophage Biology to provide scientific leadership in macrophage biology and immune-stromal interactions, driving target identification, validation, and translational strategy across our fibrosis and oncology discovery portfolio. You will establish macrophage-based target screening assays combined with novel extracellular matrix-based cell models, utilizing cellular, immunological, biochemical, molecular biology, and functional genomic approaches. You will also provide scientific mentorship and technical guidance, champion innovative approaches, and represent macrophage biology expertise within cross-functional project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a suite of macrophage functionality assays for target discovery and drug discovery, including activation, cytokine secretion, phagocytosis, and efferocytosis assays.
  • Optimize macrophage target screening-based systems using annotated lmw libraries and functional genomic approaches such as siRNA and CrispR library-based approaches.
  • Lead a small team of immunologists/cell biologists involved in project execution across internal and external biopartnerships.
  • Lead the build of novel macrophage drug target nomination packages and present cases to leadership for portfolio entry.
  • Analyze, interpret, report, and present results.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable expertise in macrophage biology, particularly phagocytosis pathways.
  • Demonstrable experience in target nomination and validation in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting.
  • Expertise in the use of multi-colour flow cytometry and IF techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with key immunological and molecular biology techniques including MSD, RNA/DNA extraction, qRT-PCR, western blotting, and siRNA knockdown.
  • Team and direct people leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with molecular pharmacology and oncology drug development is an advantage.
  • Prior working experience in the biotech/pharma industry performing laboratory research is a further plus.
  • Ability to plan, execute, and critically assess experiments independently.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to work to set deadlines.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • IT skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot effectively.
  • Ability to work methodically.
  • Ability to stay well organized.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
