About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer – Substations to lead and deliver detailed electrical design work across a range of HV, EHV, AC, and DC substation projects. This role involves contributing to project planning, design coordination, client engagement, and supporting the growth of the substation team through mentorship and technical leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform detailed design of substations, including layouts, grounding, cable routing, AC/DC systems, and associated documentation.
  • Act as a key technical authority on substation design, supporting internal teams and engaging with clients.
  • Prepare technical specifications for major equipment and support construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Support procurement processes and provide technical guidance throughout project delivery.
  • Contribute to proposals, project plans, and estimates, including leading smaller bids.
  • Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, and insulation coordination.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure successful project execution.
  • Conduct site visits for scope development, design validation, and construction support while promoting safety leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred).
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in high voltage substation design and engineering, ideally within Australian utility environments.
  • CPEng (Engineers Australia) and RPEQ (for Queensland-based candidates) or working towards.
  • Strong experience in substation design, including primary plant and associated systems.
  • Understanding of Civil/Structural and Protection & Control interfaces within substation projects.
  • Experience supporting testing and commissioning activities (desirable).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
  • Valid Australian driver’s licence.
