About the Role
We are looking for an Editor and Producer for our studies. This hybrid role combines aspects of producing, traditional press editing, and project management in a tech context. You will ensure that the final output is compelling for editors at major news outlets, with AI deeply integrated into our workflows and continuous testing of new tools.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and perform editing tasks for studies.
- Manage studies primarily as a producer, and also contribute to writing and editing.
- Identify stories and assign them.
- Research promising data sources and develop hypotheses for potential stories.
- Brief the appropriate journalist or specialist and hand over the study.
- Define angles and the editorial standard before writing begins.
- Bring studies to press readiness.
- Sharpen incoming drafts editorially until they are ready for publication.
- Finalize headlines, leads, and methodology descriptions.
- Ensure data accuracy, source citation, and editorial consistency.
- Critically question stories and data.
- Review charts and data points from a reader's perspective to ensure clarity.
- Identify weak angles and restructure stories to highlight the most newsworthy findings.
- Decline stories that lack sufficient substance for media coverage.
- Orchestrate the team.
- Manage three to four studies in parallel.
- Coordinate data specialists, visualizers, and writers.
- Maintain pace, quality, and ownership without creating chaos.
Requirements
- Strong editorial judgment to quickly assess the strengths and weaknesses of drafts.
- Journalistic instinct for identifying what makes a story relevant and creating a narrative that editors would publish.
- Critical thinking to question data and assess the newsworthiness of stories.
- High digital literacy and comfort with new tools, AI workflows, and digital systems.
- Ownership mentality, taking full responsibility for the role.
- Ability to coordinate three to four parallel studies and the people involved.
- Openness to learning new AI workflows.
- Ability to switch between hands-on editing and project management.
- Native-level German with excellent language skills.
- Good English proficiency (office language is English).
- Professional experience in editorial, producing, content strategy, project management, or digital PR.
