About the Role

This executive will lead systems and policies for user authentication, fraud prevention, and account security, maintaining a customer-centric focus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee onboarding processes for consumers and SMBs, including authentication profile matching, document verification, liveness/selfie flows, and watchlist screening.
  • Develop and implement synthetic authentication profile and bot detection and mitigation strategies.
  • Design step-up verification processes and manage threshold governance for onboarding.
  • Establish a 1st party abuse and scam framework for early lifecycle monitoring and portfolio management.
  • Implement account takeover detection mechanisms, including login anomaly scoring and credential stuffing defense.
  • Manage MFA and authentication strategy, including enrollment rates, SIM swap detection, and passkey/FIDO roadmap.
  • Control account changes through cool-down windows and re-authentication gates.
  • Develop and execute a compromised account response playbook.
  • Lead detection science teams working on behavioral and ML-based models.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to build fraud risk systems.
  • Manage the balance between onboarding friction and conversion, measuring false positive costs.
  • Stay familiar with account takeover threat vectors like credential stuffing, SIM swapping, and session hijacking.

Requirements

  • 15+ years in financial services fraud, or trust and safety, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Deep experience operating KYC/KYB programs at scale, ideally within a regulated financial institution or large payments platform.
  • Hands-on experience with authentication profile proofing technology, including document verification vendors, biometric liveness, and knowledge-based authentication.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead detection science teams working on behavioral and ML-based models.
  • Experience working with Product and Engineering organizations to build out fraud risk systems.
  • Experience managing the tension between onboarding friction and conversion.
  • Familiarity with account takeover threat vectors including credential stuffing, SIM swapping, and session hijacking.
  • Experience in a financial institution (bank, wallet, or card network), large-scale consumer authentication profile platform, or trust and safety at a major technology company is preferred.
  • Regulatory experience with OCC or CFPB examination processes is a strong plus.
