About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer focused on Infrastructure at Wisdom, you'll set the technical direction for reliability across the company and own the systems behind the systems. This is a force-multiplier role on a small, high-trust team, focused on building practices and guardrails to improve reliability and enable the team to handle issues effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Set the reliability strategy for the platform, including SLOs, error budgets, and operating standards.
  • Own observability end-to-end, including tracing, metrics, logging, and alerting.
  • Define how to operate AI-powered agentic workflows at scale, including retries, backpressure, idempotency, graceful degradation, and capacity controls.
  • Harden the integration surface with dental insurance carriers and practice management systems.
  • Own deploy and release engineering, including fast, safe, reversible deploys and infrastructure as code.
  • Build the incident practice, including the on-call rotation, runbooks, and blameless post-incident culture.
  • Raise the bar through others by setting technical standards via code review, architecture guidance, and documentation.
  • Take on ambiguous, company-level reliability problems and drive them to resolution.

Requirements

  • 8+ years running production systems with a track record of operating at staff/principal scope.
  • Experience operating at scale under pressure, leading incidents to resolution, and establishing reliability practices.
  • Proven ability to multiply the impact of people around you through setting standards and mentoring.
  • Deep AWS (or GCP) experience, including deploying, operating, and debugging distributed services.
  • Strong experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform), containers and orchestration (ECS/Kubernetes), and CI/CD.
  • Hands-on production experience operating at least one major LLM API (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Vertex AI).
  • Strong command of TypeScript/JavaScript; Python or Go is a plus.
  • Deep experience with relational databases, including connection management, query performance, and data integrity.
  • A default to ownership and a proactive approach to resolving issues.
  • Direct, intellectually honest, and collaborative communication style.
