About the Role
The Tax Assistant is an integral part of the Company’s Finance Department, reporting directly to the Corporate Controller. The primary focus is analyzing Canadian sales tax, and US sales and use tax.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with team members to successfully deliver value in tax services.
- Maintain best practices in Canadian corporate tax including PST, HST, QST, and US sales and use tax.
- Ensure up to date compliance with US and Canadian tax laws and regulations.
- Conduct research on Canadian and US sales and use tax.
- Ensure accurate filing on Canadian and US sales and use tax.
- Provide assistance and accuracy during tax audits, and respond to notices from tax authorities.
- Maintain comprehensive tax records and financial data for company use and audits.
- Gather and organize Canadian and US tax information, including financial statements, income records, and expense documentation.
- Utilize company tax software effectively.
- Perform other ad hoc duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or taxation.
- Work experience in a taxation role; co-op experience is a plus.
- Proficiency with MS Office, including strong command of Excel functions.
- Ability to apply understanding of financial statements and other relevant financial and business information to tax advisory and compliance work.
- Ability to work autonomously and commitment to delivering an excellent product.
