About the Role
The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for investigating assigned properties of concerns being either residential, commercial, industrial or institutional sites after a disastrous incident, including but not limited to structural elements and providing professional evaluations.
Responsibilities
- Assess residential, commercial, industrial or institutional damaged buildings.
- Research failure modes and code requirements.
- Oversee the preparation of reporting and permit drawing generation for restoration/renovation work.
- Prepare structural design and drafting for restoration of complex damaged buildings, as well as new buildings.
- Manage and work with multi-disciplinary teams on large and complex assignments.
- Collaborate with team members and manage timelines to meet strict deadlines.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports on structural recommendations and approved drawings within the requested timeframe.
- Conduct peer reviews on scope of work.
- Delegate tasks when necessary.
- Travel throughout Ontario and possibly other locations on short notice.
- Monitor and assess personal and divisional processes and procedures to enhance efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and company expectations.
- Act as the primary liaison with clients, contractors, building owners, and building officials.
- Embody and promote the values of Element, acting as a brand ambassador.
- Perform any other duties needed to help drive the Vision, fulfill the Mission, and abide by the Organization’s Values.
Requirements
- University degree in civil/structural engineering and P.Eng. designation.
- 7 - 10 years of experience in the structural design field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in wood frame construction.
- 3+ years of project management experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Prior use of CAD and REVIT software.
- Understanding of the Ontario Building Code, specifically Part 9.
- Proven leadership experience.
- Proven ability to work within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Construction/site experience in wood frame construction is an asset.
- Familiarity with steel, concrete, masonry, light gauge steel design is an asset.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a properly insured vehicle.
