About the Role

As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you'll help design the critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. Your work will directly support technological advancement, sustainability, and human experience, defining the future of the built environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a variety of project tasks including general engineering knowledge of telecommunication (Horizontal/Backbone cabling) or electronic security systems (access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection etc.) and operational coordination with commercial hardware.
  • Design cabling pathways such as conduits or cable tray systems, including proper bonding systems.
  • Meet with project clients to evaluate, define, and review customer needs/objectives and ensure project design meets requirements.
  • Define and develop complete project related construction documents, including design documents (SD, DD, CD), to show design intent and project specifications.
  • Assist with system-related activities within all construction administration (CA) activities.
  • Coordinate with integrated, multidisciplinary project teams to develop functional requirements, system designs, and other project-related requirements.
  • Edit telecommunication or security specifications specific to the project.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry product offerings and research new emerging technologies.
  • Assist in problem resolution and technical troubleshooting when field support is needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • A minimum of 20 years of experience
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license).
  • Extensive experience in project execution
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard design software.
  • Must be comfortable being viewed as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design and have proven background of technical leadership on these types of projects.

  • RCDD or PSP is preferred
  • "Can-Do” and problem-solving mind-set
  • Ability to work in different forms of computer softwares such as Building Information Modeling (BIM); “Revit”, PDF software, Microsoft and Google softwares
  • Familiarity working with AI LLMs and AI enhanced tools

  • Ability to rigorously audit, validate, and verify all AI-generated outputs (calculations, code interpretations, and designs) against engineering fundamentals and regulations.

  • Ability to work in a high-velocity environment managing multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and workmanship quality.

  • Proficiency or able to work in Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in Revit, AutoCAD is a bonus.
  • Must be able to learn new applications quickly.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings and design standards and practices.
  • Strong desire for continuous learning and professional education.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Proficient computer skills in standard design software.
