About the Role
WEX Venture Capital, the venture capital arm of WEX, invests in startups leveraging innovative technologies and business models to expand WEX into new markets. This role is crucial for shaping the development of WEX Venture Capital into a best-in-class corporate VC, contributing significantly to the impact of our fund on WEX, the startup ecosystem, and the evolution of the mobility and fintech industries.
Responsibilities
- Develop and pursue new investment theses across B2B payments and commercial mobility.
- Source new investment opportunities across North America, Europe, and Israel.
- Provide financial and market analysis to lead the development of investment cases.
- Lead due diligence efforts for potential investments.
- Cultivate a close working relationship with senior business stakeholders to share insights from the venture ecosystem.
- Manage the deal pipeline, screening, and scouting processes.
- Scale the fund’s capabilities by identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Engage with peer investors and represent WEX VC.
- Represent WEX VC at industry events and conferences.
- Represent WEX as a board observer in portfolio company board meetings where appropriate.
- Develop trusted relationships with portfolio CEOs to help them navigate challenges.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience with a track record in venture capital, incubation, M&A/Corporate Finance, Business Development or startup management in fintech, mobility, physical industry, and/or software.
- Strong business acumen and executive presence.
- Experience in venture capital or private equity due diligence efforts that culminated in successful investments in the millions of dollars.
- Technical understanding of several sub-sectors within fintech and/or payments.
- Ability to identify key challenges and opportunities in those areas.
- Communication skills to present emerging opportunities clearly to a sophisticated audience.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills.
- A network aligned with our field.
- Ability to foster collaborative relationships with startup leaders and other external partners.
- The entrepreneurial spirit, sense of ownership, and willingness to take on work outside the core job description.
