About the Role

The First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB) supports First Nations in strengthening their governance and financial practices by providing optional tools and services. As an independent organization, the FMB is dedicated to fostering self-determination and financial sustainability for First Nations communities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with assigned clients to build trust and prepare for FMS certification.
  • Support First Nation clients in achieving FMS certification by facilitating, empowering, motivating, and educating.
  • Assist First Nations in promoting change management principles for FMS certification.
  • Assist with the development of capacity building resources, including internal control tools, templates, webinars, and tutorials.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify and implement leading practice capacity development delivery methods.
  • Develop relationships with third-party contractors, external researchers, and academic institutions for training materials.
  • Provide post-certification support to clients after they achieve FMS certification.
  • Deliver presentations and coordinate FMB presence at national and regional conferences.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience in planning and conducting internal or external audits of internal control over financial reporting or similar.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in planning, monitoring, and reporting activities or funding agreements.
  • Must be fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations and Indigenous governments and organizations.
  • Knowledge of First Nations-related intervention policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to facilitate the review and implementation of approved finance, governance, human resources, and information management policies.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to encourage and engage clients to build confidence, capacity, and desire for FMS certification.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced proficiency with Excel spreadsheets.
  • Willing to travel, including to remote locations.
  • Able to work outside regular business hours.
