About the Role
Texas Oncology is seeking a PRN Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) to support the Infusion Department at their Central Austin location. This PRN position operates Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with no weekends, call, or holidays required. The role offers a meaningful opportunity to make an impact in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
- Assess patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material.
- Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
- Administer all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique.
- Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies where applicable.
- Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management.
- Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports and maintain central lines catheter devices.
- Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
- Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education.
- RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to work 2 days per week on Thursday and Friday.
- Ability to work in an environment with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
