About the Role
Make the Road New York (MRNY) seeks a temporary part-time Brooklyn Workplace Justice Organizer to expand our organizing and civic engagement efforts in Brooklyn. This role will focus on building and supporting a community base committed to protecting workers' rights at all government levels.
Responsibilities
- Build power by recruiting and engaging New Yorkers committed to addressing low-wage worker issues.
- Mobilize community members to advance campaigns that positively impact lives.
- Lead bi-weekly, in-person organizing committee meetings in the Brooklyn office, ensuring member participation and success.
- Support member leadership development for campaign execution.
- Collaborate with the Director of Base Building to meet recruitment, mobilization, and campaign goals.
- Achieve campaign victories and build strong alliances at local, state, and federal levels.
- Support civic engagement initiatives, including voter registration and Get Out the Vote efforts.
- Assist with the Guardianes del Barrio program, including recruiting and supporting capitanes and their teams.
- Represent MRNY in external meetings and events with allied organizations and elected officials.
- Ensure collaboration between organizing and service support programs.
- Participate in team and all-staff meetings across NYC and NYS as required.
Requirements
- Eligible to work in the US.
- Fluency in Spanish required; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in community organizing, labor organizing, or familiarity with MRNY's community issues.
- Proficiency in basic computer programs (Google Suite, Zoom, Salesforce).
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multicultural environments.
- Demonstrated commitment to developing and elevating member leadership.
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to travel via public transportation throughout NYC, NYS, and to Washington DC as needed, often with MRNY members.
