About the Role
This position investigates the interplay between stochasticity of calcium dynamics and excitation propagation in the heart, focusing on reentry or spiral rotors, within a DFG-funded project in collaboration with HU Berlin / MDC.
Responsibilities
- Extend EMI model implementation in the Kaskade 7 finite element package for inclusion of more complex ionic models and statistical models of calcium dynamics.
- Conduct simulations in different regimes and extract relevant correlations.
- Publish findings in international journals.
- Present findings at conferences.
Requirements
- A completed master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, mathematics, or related disciplines, or equivalent knowledge and experience acquired through relevant professional experience.
- Proficiency in modern C++ software development including template programming.
- Practical experience with the implementation of numerical algorithms for partial differential equations (finite element methods, iterative solvers, Runge-Kutta time stepping) and corresponding software, in particular the DUNE libraries.
- Detailed knowledge of electrophysiology models, in particular stochastic calcium dynamics.
- Proven ability for international and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
