About the Role

BMO Commercial Banking is seeking a Managing Director – Technology Banking to drive growth in the Northwestern U.S. This role is crucial for expanding BMO's Technology Banking franchise and portfolio, with full executive leadership support. The position involves building a diverse client portfolio, acquiring new clients, and delivering BMO's comprehensive commercial banking and capital markets platform.

Responsibilities

  • Build a portfolio of private and publicly listed Technology companies in the Northwestern U.S.
  • Drive initiatives by developing the BMO Technology Banking brand and reputation
  • Pursue new business opportunities and acquire new clients
  • Deliver BMO’s entire commercial banking and capital markets platform
  • Manage a portfolio of important client relationships
  • Act as a liaison between clients and different product partners and stakeholders
  • Generate meaningful revenue from sales and syndications
  • Ensure compliance with internal control standards, audit requirements, and regulatory policies
  • Lead and/or partner for brand-building and marketing events
  • Support the regional leader with talent identification and hiring
  • Advise on sales strategy based on market understanding
  • Develop business cases by identifying needs, analyzing options, and assessing ROI
  • Represent the bank at industry forums and conferences
  • Manage the risk of the assigned complex portfolio
  • Act as daily sales contact for clients on sales-related questions
  • Gather data to advance the sales process and complete documentation
  • Engage in pre-sales activities such as pitch preparation and client research
  • Track implementation requests to ensure timelines are met
  • Involve in sales and service administration and processing
  • Maintain current client information on Bank systems/files
  • Apply expertise and think creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations

Requirements

  • Strong business development and marketing acumen
  • Creates strategies to expand portfolios, identify opportunities, and align with business goals
  • Deep understanding of the Technology industry and its sub-sectors from a business development and credit risk analysis perspective
  • Solid understanding of capital structure considerations
  • Experienced in working with product partners in capital markets and investment banking
  • Ability to have strategic conversations with C-Suite executives at prospect companies
  • Well-connected across the Technology eco-system with a track-record of successful business development in this industry sector
  • Leverages analysis tools to nurture and grow a portfolio that exceeds ROE thresholds
  • Evaluates client returns on a proactive basis
  • Typically, 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Technical leader viewed as a thought leader for innovation
  • Solid commercial credit knowledge
  • Demonstrated history of successful business development, including ability to network in external markets
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the technology industry and its market’s competitive environment
  • Experience in contract negotiations with both clients and legal counsel
  • Experience drafting responses to complex RFPs
  • Expert verbal & written communication skills
  • Expert analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Expert collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration
  • Able to manage ambiguity
