About the Role
The Marketing Director leads The Gathering Spot's Marketing & Communications Department, overseeing execution of marketing projects and driving strategic vision to enhance member engagement, program attendance, membership applications, and brand voice through relevant content.
Responsibilities
- Strategic planning and execution of marketing initiatives to drive membership growth, retention, event activation, and brand engagement.
- Tracking execution of deliverables across the Marketing & Communications Department.
- Leading, developing, and monitoring the brand and voice of The Gathering Spot.
- Approving all marketing and communications assets and deliverables.
- Leading the member communications schedule, including strategy for member storytelling and highlighting member events, recognition moments, and community milestones.
- Building and managing the cultural calendar, identifying opportunities for TGS to engage in cultural conversations and developing brand-aligned content.
- Serving as a cross-departmental liaison for marketing and communications initiatives.
- Managing direct reports: Social Media Manager and Communications Manager.
- Managing contractors and vendors, including graphic designers, department admins, photographers, and videographers.
- Partnering with Membership Recruitment on top-of-funnel content and campaigns to drive qualified applications.
- Partnering with Programming and Member Events on event marketing and post-event content to drive attendance.
- Owning Marketing KPIs and reporting performance against them to leadership.
- Measuring new member applications driven by marketing channels.
- Measuring marketing's contribution to member program and event attendance.
- Measuring marketing's contribution to club attendance and visit frequency.
- Monitoring member engagement with marketing communications, including email open rates, click-through rates, and feedback on storytelling content.
- Monitoring social media performance against algorithm benchmarks.
- Ensuring on-time delivery of marketing and communications deliverables.
- Measuring cross-functional satisfaction with marketing partnership through quarterly check-ins.
Requirements
- 7+ years of marketing and communications experience, ideally including hospitality, membership, lifestyle brands, or media companies.
- Direct experience managing and developing a marketing and communications team.
- Sharp cultural instincts and judgment for brand engagement in current conversations.
- Demonstrated experience in member or community-driven storytelling.
- Track record of running a marketing function that drove measurable business outcomes (member acquisition, retention, ticket sales, event attendance).
- Ability to balance multiple projects, deliverables, and timelines simultaneously.
- Ability to lead and manage a team of marketing creatives, tracking timelines and deliverables.
- Ability to work well with a team and collaborate effectively.
- Ability to work well under pressure and with quick turnaround.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of data-driven marketing decision making and analysis, including current understanding of social platform algorithm trends.
- Flexibility to be available outside of typical work hours, including evenings and weekends during major events and brand moments.
- Comfort in a fast-moving, owner-led business.
