About the Role

As a Junior Camp Mentor, you will play an important role in creating a safe, fun, and supportive environment while leading activities and building positive relationships with participants for children ages 6-12.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead activities for a group of children
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants
  • Facilitate fun, creative, and age-appropriate programming
  • Support the development of programs for children ages 6–12
  • Ensure all equipment and supplies are safe and in good working condition
  • Maintain accurate attendance, headcounts, and required documentation
  • Ensure programs are inclusive, non-competitive, and developmentally appropriate
  • Supervise participants at all times, following all safety guidelines and procedures
  • Address conflicts and behaviours using positive behaviour management strategies
  • Assist in responding to incidents in accordance with Club policies and procedures
  • Participate in all staff training and orientation sessions
  • Report to and take direction from the Program Manager and Supervisors
  • Maintain professional relationships with staff, volunteers, families, and participants
  • Attend scheduled meetings and team briefings
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to each scheduled shift

Requirements

  • Experience working with children ages 6–12 (required)
  • Current First Aid & CPR (mandatory)
  • Police Reference Check within the last 6 months (required prior to start date)
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada

Skills

  • Strong interest in recreation, education, or child and youth programming
  • Skills in areas such as sports, arts, recreation, education, or health & nutrition
  • Strong supervision, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills
