About the Role

iCapital is expanding rapidly in Canada, creating a new role for a tax professional to support its Canada expansion strategy within the Operations and Investment Product Management team. This role will handle tax compliance for all Canadian access funds.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Canada tax team with full-cycle Canadian income and indirect tax compliance by coordinating with external tax providers, fund administrator, and internal teams for feeder funds structured as trusts and partnerships.
  • Assist in monitoring investor inquiries regarding T3, T5013, T5008, and NR4 tax slips, and coordinate with external advisors for Canadian income tax and information returns, SLFI returns, and US tax returns.
  • Assist with fund tax structuring discussions, coordinating with external tax providers and internal teams to ensure documentation is maintained.
  • Manage registration and account opening for income, sales tax, and non-resident accounts with the CRA and Revenue Quebec for feeder funds, maintain tax accounts, and handle correspondence with revenue agencies.
  • Coordinate with fund administrator and fund finance teams to streamline the tax payment process.
  • Manage and process tax notices, including sorting, scanning, and logging, and communicate updates on tax notices to the CRA with assistance from external tax advisors.
  • Ensure tax slips are successfully posted on platforms by coordinating with internal teams and external service providers.
  • Track and retrieve tax documents, including tax estimates, K-1s, and all tax documents for third-party preparers.
  • Assist external tax service providers in gathering information for Canadian income and sales tax filings and investor outreach for provincial allocation percentages for sales tax.
  • Create and maintain investment portal access for portfolio investments across multiple funds.
  • Manage mail, including returned mail and other tax-related correspondence.
  • Monitor tax email distribution lists and mailboxes to ensure timely responses to inquiries.
  • Create and document clear tax operations procedures for external service providers and internal teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in fund tax and dealing with the CRA in investment funds/asset management environment is preferred
  • Willing to learn new topics and work in an evolving business environment
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Comfortable learning new systems and technology
  • Organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with ability to see the big picture
