About the Role

The Toronto office of Smith + Andersen is seeking a Project Designer II - Audiovisual to lead the design and integration of AV systems within complex building projects. You bring a disciplined approach to managing the design process—working with clients, architects, and engineers to define requirements and deliver coordinated, buildable AV solutions aligned with project scope, budget, and schedule. You are an effective communicator and natural leader who keeps teams aligned, drives decisions, and ensures no detail is missed. You thrive in a collaborative design environment and are motivated to deliver integrated building systems on some of the most significant and technically demanding projects in the country.

Responsibilities

  • Lead client and user engagement to define audiovisual functional requirements and align with building design, budget, and construction schedule to support project success.
  • Project management of the audiovisual system design to develop, integrate, and deliver compliant, coordinated building designs from concept through construction documentation.
  • Provide effective communication with architects, owners, and other consultants in support of the audiovisual system design.
  • Prepare AV system tender packages, ensuring all drawings, details, and specifications are fair, reasonable, and constructible.
  • Work with architects and interior designers to ensure all audiovisual equipment is properly coordinated from an installation and maintenance perspective.
  • Work with audiovisual integrators, general contractors, and other trades to ensure that all site-related issues are resolved in a timely manner, which may involve the issuance of site instructions, change notices, and other related documentation.
  • Build and grow relationships with all members of the audiovisual department ecosystem (teammates, S+A colleagues, architects, end-users, manufacturers, suppliers, and integrators).
  • Mentor junior members of the audiovisual department.

Requirements

  • Five or more years in the audiovisual or electrical field.
  • Knowledgeable about industry standard - AVIXA.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, CAD/Revit, MS Project.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a complex environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
  • Possess sound communication skills as demonstrated through client and staff relations.
  • Demonstrate experience working with other consultants and contractors, and coordination of major projects.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Outstanding problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Salary/Compensations

  • $85,000 - $130,000
