About the Role
The Undersea Systems Division at Leidos is seeking a Software Engineer to join a collaborative team developing and prototyping advanced ocean technologies. This role involves designing custom software, integrating new technologies, and supporting hands-on testing of mission-critical sensor systems across the full development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and maintenance of software tools for testing and evaluating undersea sensor systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design, integrate, and assess new sensor technologies.
- Identify and integrate new technologies to improve software development workflows, testing, and automation.
- Support laboratory and field testing, including troubleshooting, validation, and data analysis.
- Conduct at-sea testing aboard small vessels and assist with post-processing and data interpretation.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM field with 2–4 years of experience.
- Master’s degree in a related STEM field with 0–2 years of experience.
- Professional software development experience with C# (.NET Framework).
- Working knowledge of C/C++ for hardware-focused or embedded applications.
- Experience with multithreading and asynchronous programming.
- Experience developing software interfaces for hardware such as DAQ systems, sensors, actuators, or custom test equipment.
- Familiarity with communication protocols including Serial/RS232, I2C, SPI, or Ethernet/TCP-IP.
- Competence with standard laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, and power supplies.
- Ability to translate complex technical challenges into clear requirements.
- Ability to work aboard marine vessels in varying weather and temperature conditions.
- Ability to lift or transport objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
