About the Role

The Hotel Accountant oversees the overall integrity of financial records and reporting for two hotel properties. This role involves leading financial best practices, monitoring, and reporting in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment that encourages collaboration to maximize efficiency and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, PST Remittance, DMF Remittance, Room Tax Remittance, Non Resident Tax Remittance, GST/HST remittances, quarterly WCB filings, annual T4A filings, and administer the general ledger.
  • Collaborate with Executive and Leadership Teams on strategic plans and annual business plans.
  • Track budget results, understand variances, and create action plans with departmental managers.
  • Troubleshoot and request technical support for hotel operating systems (Property Management System, Point of Sale System, Payment Systems, Payroll Tracking System).
  • Create schedules and sensitivity analysis to analyze financial data and business processes.
  • Prepare documents for hotel managers, directors, and the Head Office team.
  • Manage the complete billing and collections cycle.
  • Manage the hotel purchasing and payable cycle.
  • Monitor cost and expense controls and propose best business practices.
  • Assess and enforce internal control procedures to prevent fraud and safeguard hotel assets.
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of permits, licenses, and registrations.
  • Lead investigations of payroll and benefits issues for union and management employees, liaising with the Union, Benefits provider, and Department Heads.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a qualified CPA program.
  • Understanding of financial reports including budgetary guidelines and project expenditures.
  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects.
