About the Role

As a Gensler Technical Designer, you will collaborate with architects and designers to develop innovative design solutions and coordinate design through the construction documentation phase. You will translate sketches and documents into 2D/3D models and images, research technical issues, and leverage your acumen and Revit skills to drive client projects from concept through build.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all project phases, including conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary internal teams, ensuring design intent and project objectives are carried out through all phases.
  • Coordinate regularly with project team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies, and vendors to meet project goals and ensure alignment.
  • Document coordination with consultants (structural, MEP, lighting, AV, acoustical, accessibility, building envelope, life safety, etc.).
  • Resolve complex technical and design issues to produce thorough, constructible, and innovative solutions.
  • Direct production of drawings, specifications and construction administration tasks.
  • Ensure delivery of documentation reflects design intent and top-tier technical quality.
  • Process submittals/substitution requests during construction and address RFIs.
  • Interface with building and permitting officials during the permitting and construction phases of the project.
  • Actively participate and contribute to the financial performance of project.
  • Review and contribute to proposals and contracts with the Design Manager.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and manage submission drawings and documentation for local authorities in Singapore (URA, BCA, SCDF, etc.), supporting the Project Architects in ensuring compliance with architectural and interior design codes and authority approval processes.
  • Contribute to office initiatives, knowledge-sharing, and learning programs to support team development and studio culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • 3 - 5 years of related project experience.
  • Proficiency in modeling using 3D software; Revit is preferred.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and/or SketchUp.
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes and accessibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and parametric design software, including Grasshopper, is a plus.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key partners.
  • Knowledge in sustainable design principles required.
  • LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Greenmark or other rating systems accreditation preferable.
  • Previous experience in sustainable design projects preferable.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative and integrated approach towards achieving high sustainability project goals.

Skills

  • Autodesk Revit for design authoring, documentation, data extracts and project delivery.
  • Strategic planning and setup of BIM projects.
  • Collaboration within the BIM context, including cloud-based markups, consultant coordination and clash detection.
  • Interoperability workflows between Rhino & Revit throughout all the stages of a project.
  • Rhinoceros for design authoring.
  • Real-time rendering processes, and material creation & management within the context of integrated BIM and parametric workflows.
  • Information Management tools such as Aconex, Asite, Newforma, etc.
  • Computational Design applications such as Grasshopper and/or Dynamo.
  • Simulation principles and processes, including interpretation, and application of results.
  • VR walkthroughs and panoramas.
  • Design Authoring - Revit, Rhino, Autocad, Navisworks
