About the Role
The County Extension Agent implements, plans, and evaluates educational programs and activities in assigned program areas, supporting other staff members' initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Maintains appropriate communications with county, district, and administrative staffs.
- Identifies, recruits, trains, and utilizes local volunteer leaders.
- Utilizes evaluation data and program outcomes to interpret program impacts to elected officials, key leaders, and stakeholders.
- Conducts interpretation events for elected officials to report on program accomplishments.
- Develops a long-range professional improvement plan with the District Extension Administrator.
- Develops annual individual development plans.
- Participates in training opportunities to increase knowledge and skills.
- Participates in recruiting, employing, and training secretarial and paraprofessional personnel.
- Conducts annual performance reviews for supervised support staff.
- Plans with committees, task forces, groups, and organizations to conduct educational programs.
- Develops comprehensive program plans addressing base programs, critical issues, and clientele needs.
- Plans evaluation strategies for in-depth programs and significant activities.
- Plans regularly with the total staff to coordinate programming efforts.
- Implements planned educational programs and activities in assigned areas.
- Supports and assists in implementing programs for which other staff have leadership responsibilities.
- Provides leadership or support in implementing programs addressing critical issues or emerging needs.
- Utilizes a variety of teaching methods, strategies, activities, and materials.
- Complies with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Affirmative Action Plan.
- Utilizes appropriate evaluation strategies to determine program progress.
- Utilizes evaluation results to make program revisions.
- Prepares monthly, annual, and special reports demonstrating program results and impact.
- Coordinates and collaborates with other agencies, groups, and organizations.
- Works with and supports Extension-sponsored groups (e.g., 4-H clubs, Texas Extension Education Association clubs, master volunteer groups).
- Maintains a neat office for effective working conditions.
- Keeps informed on Extension policy, research reports, and publications.
- Participates in county staff conferences to coordinate plans and activities.
- Assists in maintaining files, mailing lists, membership rolls, and inventories.
- Cooperates in the development and implementation of an EEO Action Plan.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
- Works closely with Agriculture producers and commodity organizations.
- Possesses or seeks subject matter expertise in relevant crops, horticulture, and livestock production.
- Provides leadership for ANR 4-H project areas as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- No prior experience required (Urban designated counties require minimum of three years of related professional level experience).
- Ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, and graphic software.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must complete and upload the AgriLife Applicant Supplemental Information Form.
