About the Role

Okta Platform R&D is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer with a focus on UI to build large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure in a fast-paced agile environment. This role involves defining the vision for Okta’s UI platform infrastructure, building frameworks and systems, and developing shared libraries and tools used across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Define, own, and drive the architectural vision and technical roadmap for a major UI platform subsystem.
  • Serve as the definitive design reviewer for high-impact proposals and cross-team interface specifications.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment and resolve technical ambiguity for initiatives spanning multiple product teams.
  • Shape a culture of continuous learning by proactively sharing knowledge, mentoring Senior Engineers, and establishing best practices.
  • Empower developers by building reusable components and robust design patterns.
  • Be a hands-on contributor, driving the implementation and ensuring the technical quality of the platform's most complex and foundational components.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Expertise in software architecture and implementation
  • Strong development background in a language like Java, Python, or C++
  • Significant experience with frameworks such as Spring, React.js, or Node.js
  • Strong grasp of software engineering designs, principles, and practices, with a focus on building scalable and maintainable systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to distill complex concepts into simple narratives
  • Experience defining and implementing internationalization and localization strategies for large-scale enterprise applications (Nice to have)
  • Deep, specialized knowledge of Unicode, ISO standards, and localization frameworks (Nice to have)
  • Proven track record of applying globalization knowledge to solve complex, company-wide challenges (Nice to have)
  • Familiarity with globalization testing processes (Nice to have)
  • Experience being part of a platform team treating developers as customers (Nice to have)
