About the Role

Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) is a community-based organization providing a year-round, integrated service model for children with an incarcerated parent. Our mission is to offer guidance, support, and resources to help children develop leadership skills, form positive social relationships, and enhance academic performance through a youth development and mental health model.

Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of the after-school program, ensuring a quality educational and youth development experience.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with school staff, including principals and community school coordinators.
  • Coordinates programming with partner organizations and volunteers.
  • Develops and revisits instructional plans to support academic proficiency and life skills development.
  • Determines and addresses the ongoing needs and interests of students, parents, and school staff.
  • Arranges trainings for after-school instructors on effective lesson design and delivery.
  • Prepares for and supports program evaluation.
  • Builds strong relationships with parents through orientations, meetings, daily communication, and organizing events.
  • Purchases and prepares materials for activities.
  • Selects, trains, and manages all CPNYC staff, including professional development and evaluations.
  • Delegates work appropriately to the Assistant Director, Educational Specialist, and Counselors.
  • Manages staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and provides last-minute coverage as needed.
  • Leads professional development, staff meetings, and trainings.
  • Documents and shares lessons learned with other site managers.
  • Creates a positive work atmosphere, fostering teamwork and constructive idea exchange.
  • Ensures staff adherence to CPNYC and school behavior, discipline, and safety policies.
  • Sets high expectations for staff and students and demands compliance.
  • Manages site expenses within budgetary limits.
  • Compiles data and tracks students for program evaluation and reporting.
  • Creates opportunities to publicize and involve CPNYC in school and community events.
  • Prepares and gives presentations as needed.
  • Supports CPNYC events, initiatives, and general organizational needs.
  • Organizes and maintains the CPNYC office, ensuring a conducive learning environment.
  • Ensures that all facilities used by CPNYC are left as found.
  • Executes and participates in special events and field trips.
  • Is respectful of other staff members’ time by being prompt to scheduled meetings.
  • Is flexible with hours as needed for the program.

Requirements

  • BA/BS or five + years equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of one year successful experience teaching in an educational environment.
  • A minimum of two years successful experience supervising staff.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching methods and curriculum development.
  • Ability to design programs to meet the learning needs of middle school students.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, inspire, and motivate others.
  • High level of communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Experience working in an ethnically diverse community.
  • Energy, leadership skills, strong initiative, ability to motivate through positive reinforcement.
  • Availability to work with some flexibility for occasional evening or weekend events.
  • Strong interpersonal, team development, organizational, and management skills.
  • Clear background check and history indicating fitness to work with children.
  • Clear fingerprinting from DOJ.
  • Negative TB Test.
  • Current CPR/1st Aid certification.
