About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of Student Experience, the Program Advisor plays a key role in fostering student success, focusing on continuous progression and timely program completion for Toronto Film School students. This role involves providing comprehensive support, building trusting relationships, and connecting students to essential academic and personal resources to ensure a positive campus experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with students to provide thoughtful guidance and support throughout their academic journey.
  • Advise students on policies, procedures, and program requirements to ensure they remain on track for graduation.
  • Monitor student progress and conduct meetings with at-risk or probation students to track improvement plans.
  • Support students navigating academic challenges such as appeals, dismissals, grades, or credit deficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions and outcomes.
  • Connect students with university services including tutoring, accommodations, financial services, IT support, mental health counselling, and career services.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance programs and student services.
  • Lead weekly Skills for Success courses and host orientation programs.
  • Participate in university events to foster campus community.
  • Respond to student inquiries via in-person, email, and ticketing systems.
  • Contribute to reporting related to student retention and reenrollment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience supporting post-secondary students in an academic or student services environment.
  • Understanding of student development theory and best practices in advising.
  • Familiarity with university policies, academic calendars, and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams, Excel, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Student Information Systems (SIS) experience.
  • Strong communication and rapport-building skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and professionalism.
  • Ability to de-escalate sensitive situations.
  • Detail-oriented documentation and record-keeping.

Salary/Compensations

  • $55,000 - $62,000
