This internship offers hands-on experience in actuarial projects that contribute to team and company goals, product training, mentorship, and exposure to various actuarial functions.
Responsibilities
- Support quarterly and annual valuation and financial reporting activities under US Statutory & US Tax, US GAAP, IFRS17 & LICAT, Economic Capital, and Bermuda Statutory.
- Perform miscellaneous reserve calculations, reconciliations, and analysis.
- Verify and understand actuarial assumptions.
- Calculate reserves and capital requirements from first principles.
- Assist with reserve sensitivities and scenario testing.
- Perform valuation model spot-checks and independent validation of system reserves.
- Confirm the accuracy and completeness of valuation data.
- Document and explain valuation results.
- Implement changes in the AXIS actuarial model and test the impact of valuation system changes.
- Apply statistical methods in the calibration of the divisional economic capital model.
- Contribute to the development of key assumptions through analysis of internal and external data.
- Work with tools such as Excel, R, SQL, and Tableau to support R&D team improvements.
- Contribute to complex actuarial projects, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
- Provide support across enterprise actuarial transformation efforts.
- Support implementing model development projects, conversions, and large-scale changes.
- Prepare presentations for senior management, summarizing findings and providing actionable recommendations.
- Communicate complex actuarial concepts and results to non-actuarial stakeholders.
- Support pricing projects and quotes under the guidance of senior actuarial team members.
- Help maintain and update pricing models and tools.
- Support ongoing improvements to pricing processes.
Requirements
- Completion of at least 1 Society of Actuaries exam is required.
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree majoring in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or Actuarial Science.
- Demonstrates an appropriate level of actuarial knowledge for their experience level.
- Ability to problem solve and demonstrate leadership.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Desire to gain more experience in the actuarial field.
- Participates actively in meetings, has 'meeting presence'.
- Ability to work well on a team as well as independently.
- Takes responsibility for quality, completeness, and accuracy of work.
- Shows initiative, flexibility, and resourcefulness.
