About the Role
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Compliance & Operational Risk Officer (Vice President) to join the International Legal Entity Compliance & Operational Risk team. This role offers exposure to various team activities and the opportunity to drive execution across governance, reporting, and initiatives. The position operates globally, ensuring consideration for legal entities and business lines across EMEA, APAC, Canada, and Latin America. Based in London, the role reports to the International Legal Entity Compliance & Operational Risk - Program, Governance and Reporting Senior Manager. As part of Wells Fargo’s second line of defense, this role establishes, implements, and maintains risk standards and programs for compliance with regulatory requirements, while providing governance and oversight of operational risk.
Responsibilities
- Operate as a dedicated Subject Matter Expert (SME) and point of contact for senior leadership.
- Accountably execute Compliance and Operational Risk Program Policy and Framework elements, Governance, and Reporting activities for legal entities.
- Act as a fungible resource to support Legal Entity elements across Governance & Reporting, Initiatives, Program, and Country Compliance.
- Produce Legal Entity governance and reporting for internal leadership and Executive/Board fora, focusing on risk intelligence, data, and analytics.
- Draft and oversee Planned Activities, lead Risk Appetite, and manage SORA and intra-legal entity outsourcing arrangements.
- Extract insights from monitoring, IT&V, Audit, and Regulatory Engagements for International businesses.
- Serve as SME for Compliance and Operational Risk Regulatory Change and Inventory Management (RCIM) activities, aligning the operational risk RCIM approach.
- Provide oversight and monitoring of business group Compliance & Operational Risk based programs.
- Maintain Compliance & Operational Risk expertise and consulting for projects and initiatives with moderate to high risk.
- Establish, implement, and maintain Compliance & Operational Risk standards and programs.
- Oversee the Front Line's execution and challenge Compliance & Operational Risk related decisions.
- Develop, oversee, and provide independent credible challenge to standards.
- Provide direction to the business on developing corrective action plans and managing regulatory change.
- Report findings and make recommendations to management and committees.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and control development.
- Monitor the reporting, escalation, and remediation of issues, deficiencies, or regulatory matters.
- Interpret policies, procedures, and Compliance & Operational Risk requirements.
- Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals.
- Work with complex business units, rules, and regulations on moderate to high Compliance & Operational Risk matters.
- Interface with Audit, Legal, external agencies, and regulatory bodies on risk-related topics.
Requirements
- Experience in Compliance, Operational Risk, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, or education.
- Extensive experience in Compliance and/or Operational Risk at leading international financial services firm(s).
- Demonstrable collaboration and influencing skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively with a risk manager and service mindset.
- Ability to join-the-dots and extract the ‘so what’ for International from monitoring, IT&V, Audit, and Regulatory Engagements.
- Proven technical knowledge and experience of Program, Governance, and Reporting elements.
- Good understanding of Investment Banking and Products.
