About the Role
The Street Maintenance Equipment Operator Senior operates heavy-duty machinery, including backhoes and front-end loaders, to support the construction and maintenance of city infrastructure. This role involves performing manual labor, assuming leadership responsibilities in the absence of the crew chief, and ensuring all operations comply with safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as gradalls, front-end loaders, backhoes, tandem dump trucks, track-hoes, and paving machines.
- Haul materials to and from job sites and participate in loading and unloading.
- Perform manual labor tasks including digging trenches.
- Assume leadership roles and complete paperwork in the absence of the crew chief.
- Assist the crew supervisor in supervising crews on the job site.
- Locate underground services such as pipes or wires prior to construction.
- Assist the crew chief in establishing grades, setting batter boards, and placing concrete.
- Perform routine inspections of equipment for mechanical readiness and safety.
- Comply with work and safety rules, OSHA regulations, and hazard protocols.
- Coordinate machine actions with other crew members using hand or audio signals.
- Participate in large-scale field operations for street grading, construction, and repair.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience in the independent operation of complex construction equipment.
- Valid Class A commercial driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a CDL tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.
- Must have actively held and utilized a Class A CDL for a minimum of 6 months.
- Ability to successfully complete a skills assessment during the interview process.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination.
- Must pass a background check including reference, criminal, and motor vehicle record checks.
