About the Role

We are seeking a Manager, Investment Operations (Public Markets) for our Finance team. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of all investment transactions, accounting and monitoring of CAAT’s public markets portfolio. Help lead the governance and operational control framework supporting CAAT’s public markets portfolio, with a focus on operational efficiency, data integrity, and effective risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operational activities of the public markets portfolio including transaction settlements, cash management, operational oversight and end-to-end onboarding of new investments, accounts, and structures.
  • Oversee the monthly and quarterly reconciliation between custodian records and internal books for all public market investments; investigate, escalate, and resolve breaks within established timelines.
  • Lead liquidity forecasting and cash management oversight activities, ensuring a clear understanding of funding requirements and collaborating closely with the public markets team and external managers as liquidity needs arise.
  • Oversee quarter-end reporting for the Board and senior management, including cost reporting and key financial highlights.
  • Support the preparation and review of the investment sections of the annual financial statements, audit support schedules, and related disclosures.
  • Partner with the Investment Risk and Performance teams to ensure data integrity and consistency across investment systems and reporting.
  • Work closely with the public markets investments team, the custodian (CIBC Mellon), external managers, and auditors to maintain a strong and effective control environment for CAAT’s public markets operations.
  • Oversee CAAT’s global documentation process to ensure access to foreign capital markets.
  • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures, controls and governance documentation for the public markets operations function.
  • Identify and lead process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance scalability, data integrity, and control effectiveness.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop junior team members, supporting the broader team culture.

Requirements

  • A minimum of six (6) to eight (8) years of progressive experience in investment accounting, investment operations, or middle/back-office functions supporting public markets portfolios at a pension plan, institutional asset manager, custodian, or professional services firm.
  • Proven leader with direct people-management experience, skilled in coaching and mentoring junior staff, developing talent, and motivating teams to drive high-performance results.
  • Hands-on experience supporting transaction operations for an investment portfolio.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver under multiple competing priorities, combined with exceptional problem-solving and sound decision-making practices.
  • Strong operational risk awareness with the ability to identify issues, recommend solutions, and strengthen internal controls and processes.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to build and foster relationships with key stakeholders.

Skills

  • Deep understanding of public markets instruments (equities, fixed income, and derivatives) and their accounting and valuation practices, coupled with working knowledge of fund waterfalls, performance fees, and management fee calculations.

Salary/Compensations
