About the Role
The Service Manager will manage, direct, and coordinate service and support staff to ensure effective and efficient department operations. This role requires professional conduct, good judgment, and maintaining confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Hire, train, and motivate field service personnel, ensuring they have necessary supplies and equipment.
- Train, coach, and manage staff performance, including termination for underperformance.
- Provide feedback on job performance and identify training needs through reviews.
- Meet regularly with staff to ensure clear communication of goals and objectives.
- Oversee staff to achieve targeted performance levels in quality and quantity of work.
- Assess skill levels of field and support personnel, communicate quality standards, and develop training plans.
- Approve vacation and personal time requests according to company policies.
- Ensure smooth functioning of field operations, including new system start-up, emergency service, and preventive maintenance.
- Supervise safety and training programs for service technicians and personnel.
- Enhance the skill sets and work processes of service technicians and inspectors.
- Monitor scheduling effectiveness and ensure compliance with safety and fire codes.
- Address quality problems, recommend solutions, and suggest changes to equipment or repair methods.
- Maintain accurate and timely departmental reports and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Achieve operational and productivity goals, including budget compliance and job cost profitability.
- Review reported hours of staff weekly, ensuring active status and minimizing waste.
- Prioritize customer service and support.
- Resolve customer complaints and work towards equitable resolutions.
- Ensure departmental documentation is complete for timely customer billing.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with managers and staff across departments.
- Ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
- Conduct employee evaluations to improve performance.
- Demonstrate good judgment in reporting and resolving problems.
- Interpret and comply with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Trade School Certification.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Experience as a service technician and inspector in the fire detection and alarm industry is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with equipment repair is preferred.
- Previous dispatching experience is preferred.
- Proven track record of reducing operating costs is preferred.
- Experience with training programs and quality control issues.
- Ability to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach on a daily basis.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient on MS Office.
