About the Role

Reporting to the CTO, you will own the data strategy and execution for Moonfare at a pivotal moment in our growth. We are building the infrastructure and intelligence layer that will power how we serve investors, operate as a business, and scale into new markets, and data is the foundation everything else depends on. You will inherit a capable team and a real mandate: to bring it together, raise the bar, and build a data function that is fit for where Moonfare is going, not just where it has been. The role demands someone who can hold the strategic vision and get into the technical detail, knowing when to lead from the front and when to elevate the people around them. In return, you get a rare scope, shaping how a fast-growing private equity platform thinks about, structures, and activates its data from the ground up. This role sits at the intersection of Engineering, Product, and the wider business, leading our combined Data Engineering and Analytics function. The team is 6 people across pipelines, analytics, and architecture who will come together under your leadership into one cohesive function with a shared mission. The team's work underpins how Moonfare makes decisions, serves its investors, and builds towards an AI-driven operating model, making this one of the highest-leverage functions in the business.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the data strategy for Moonfare, building the platforms, pipelines, and governance that give the business a reliable, scalable, and intelligent data foundation to grow on.
  • Bring 6 people across data engineering, analytics, and architecture into one cohesive team, setting the operating model, rituals, and standards that make the function more than the sum of its parts.
  • Architect and build the infrastructure that sources, structures, and serves data across investment, investor relations, operations, and compliance use cases.
  • Partner closely with Engineering and Product to make data the substrate that our AI and agentic capabilities are built on, and with the business to enable self-serve reporting and operational intelligence.
  • Stay deep in the technical detail across architecture reviews, design decisions, and pipeline trade-offs, while also representing data credibly to executive stakeholders and the Board.
  • Embed compliance and regulatory thinking into every layer of the platform, recognising the demands of operating in a regulated financial services environment.

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on expertise across data engineering, AI, architecture, and pipelines.
  • Ability to lead strategy and engage with the team on technical problems, contributing directly.
  • Experience building or significantly evolving a modern data platform in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Understanding of compliance, auditability, and data quality demands at the architecture level.
  • Strong point of view on modern AI and agentic systems' data needs, with practical application experience.
  • Experienced people leader who has unified or scaled a multi-disciplinary data team.
  • Ability to bring engineers, analysts, and architects together around a shared mission.
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and work alongside the team.
  • Thrives in pressured, high-ambiguity scale-up environments.
  • Energised by carrying both strategic load and technical work.
  • Credible partner to executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Able to translate between business outcomes and technical reality.
  • Eligible to live and work in Berlin.
