About the Role
As a Platform Engineer at charles, you’ll help drive our product and infrastructure forward, enabling us to revolutionize conversational commerce. You’re a generalist with a passion for infrastructure and operations, working closely with other Engineers to build scalable, high-performing systems, improve system architecture, resolve tech debt, and ensure seamless user experiences. Your contributions will result in reliable, data-driven solutions that support millions of users and push the boundaries of messaging-driven commerce.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate our internal developer platform, including core services, APIs, and infrastructure.
- Design, develop, and operate core services, APIs, and infrastructure.
- Build a billing API, maintain Kubernetes operators, build an authentication broker, optimize performance in our core monolith, and improve security in our link shortening service.
- Partner with product teams to investigate issues, learn their use cases, and ship platform changes.
- Join the on-call rotation as part of our "you build it, you run it" philosophy.
- Drive cost and reliability initiatives with measurable, company-wide impact.
- Build automations to accelerate and enhance the software development lifecycle.
Requirements
- 3+ years of software engineering experience.
- Generalist experience, comfortable moving between service writing, infrastructure debugging, and pipeline improvement.
- Ability to build and ship production services in Go or TypeScript.
- Proficiency in Bash and the judgment to select the appropriate tool.
- Experience building and operating cloud infrastructure that survives real production workloads, ideally on GCP.
- Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tools.
- Solid grasp of scalable system design, distributed systems, cloud technologies, and infrastructure rollout.
- Comfortable with remote work and asynchronous communication.
- Effective use of AI tools.
- Product and business sense, understanding customer needs and focusing on solving the right problems.
- Self-directed learner, able to dig into unfamiliar topics, ask good questions, and follow through.
