About the Role

The State Auditor's Office is seeking Senior Auditors to perform auditing work in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards. Responsibilities include managing and conducting audit procedures on financial and/or performance audits of state entities, assessing IT systems, and making recommendations for improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and completing a significant aspect of an audit.
  • Reviewing IT systems and controls (general and application) at state entities to assess data reliability and security and vulnerability of systems.
  • Preparing or supervising the preparation of flowcharts, diagrams, and tables that depict IT systems and processes.
  • Applying project management tools to plan and track an audit’s timeframes.
  • Determining and utilizing appropriate data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Access, ACL, SAS) to complete audit procedures.
  • Preparing and reviewing audit documentation to ensure conformance with auditing standards.
  • Concisely and accurately presenting verbal and written information to clients and management.
  • Working independently with some guidance from supervisors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (copy of transcript requested upon interview) or Master’s degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, computer/management information systems or related field.
  • 2 to 4 years’ experience in auditing, information technology/systems auditing, financial analysis, accounting, or other relevant fields is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications and advanced degree may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Certifications, advanced degrees, and years of experience will be considered in determining salary level.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% within Texas required.

  • Ability to apply project management concepts to plan and monitor own and others’ work.
  • Ability to supervise and coach others and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and clients.

Experience Level

Education Level

Salary/Compensations

  • $64,000 – $101,651.16 /yr
