About the Role
Braintrust is seeking an individual to build and own the data systems that support business operations and internal systems. This hands-on, solo role involves architecture, pipelines, data modeling, metrics definition, dashboards, and addressing business questions. The ideal candidate will have strong technical depth, understand Go-To-Market (GTM) team operations, and be excited about building with AI to automate workflows and improve business operations.
Responsibilities
- Build and own core data models connecting product usage, accounts, customers, revenue, pipeline, billing, and customer health.
- Create trusted sources of truth for key business metrics including activation, usage, retention, expansion, pipeline, ARR, and usage-based revenue.
- Build pipelines integrating product telemetry, CRM, billing, customer success, marketing, support, finance, and AI-powered internal systems.
- Partner with Engineering and Product to enhance the quality, consistency, and usability of product data.
- Collaborate with Sales, RevOps, Marketing, and Finance to translate operational questions into durable data models and workflows.
- Develop dashboards, datasets, and self-serve reporting to enable teams to answer common questions independently.
- Utilize AI to accelerate personal work and identify opportunities for agent-driven automation in reporting, enrichment, QA, routing, research, and follow-up.
- Assist in designing the data layer for future AI-native business operations workflows, including context, inputs, feedback loops, and output evaluation.
- Improve data quality through testing, monitoring, documentation, lineage, and clear ownership.
- Support business planning by providing leadership with accurate visibility into customer usage, GTM performance, and revenue health.
- Make pragmatic tradeoffs between foundational architecture and urgent business needs.
Requirements
- 10+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, data architecture, or business systems data roles.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong experience building data systems in developer tools, infrastructure, AI, or similar technical environments.
- Deep experience with SQL, data modeling, pipelines, orchestration, transformation, and production-grade code.
- Experience working across product telemetry, CRM, billing, customer health, marketing, support, finance, or other operational systems.
- Strong understanding of Go-To-Market (GTM) team operations, including Sales, RevOps, Marketing, and Finance.
- Deep curiosity about AI and a strong perspective on its impact on data engineering, analytics, and business operations.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools for coding, data analysis, workflow automation, documentation improvement, or operational task acceleration.
- Comfortable designing systems for human-agent collaboration, including data, context, guardrails, and feedback loops.
- Comfortable operating as the sole data hire in a startup, balancing architecture with immediate business needs.
