About the Role
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct clinical support, nursing care, and health services to students within the Student Health Services team. This role operates under the direction of the Nurse Manager to ensure clinic efficiency, patient care, and adherence to health protocols in a student-centered environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient intake activities including health history, vital signs, and phlebotomy.
- Provide clinical support during practitioner appointments, examinations, and procedures.
- Collect and handle specimens and perform point-of-care testing.
- Administer medications and immunizations as ordered and authorized.
- Monitor students for expected or urgent reactions to treatments.
- Document nursing actions and communications accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Route laboratory results to practitioners and communicate follow-up instructions to students.
- Reinforce health education regarding wellness, prevention, and follow-up care.
- Maintain clinical competencies and participate in ongoing training.
- Ensure exam room readiness, cleanliness, and adherence to OSHA and infection control standards.
- Manage inventory and report supply or equipment needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, team huddles, and orientation of new staff.
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved practical nursing program.
- Current New York State LPN license in good standing.
- Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe.
- Ability to respond to urgent situations and use emergency equipment.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting.
- Ability to provide student-centered support to a college-aged population.
