About the Role
The Grocery Manager is responsible for the sales and operation of multiple departments including Grocery, Dairy, Frozen Food, and Beer/Wine. This role requires a passion for delivering extraordinary customer service in a fast-paced, friendly environment, helping people make healthy choices.
Responsibilities
- Ensure products are handled properly, rotated for freshness, and date controls are performed.
- Control costs by monitoring operations to increase profitability, managing labor costs, and reducing shrink, damage, and pilferage.
- Assist in preparing the store for physical inventory counts.
- Oversee the unloading of trucks, verify deliveries against invoices, and report shortages/overages.
- Manage ordering, compliance, sanitation, back-room inventory, and department safety.
- Engage and evaluate team members through coaching, feedback, and development discussions, making recommendations for merit increases.
- Attend and participate in in-store meetings.
- Recruit, hire, and make promotion/transfer decisions in collaboration with the Store Manager.
- Exercise independent judgment to address Team Member concerns.
- Take and document corrective actions, collaborating with business and HR partners on performance management.
- Ensure maximum productivity and efficiency by creating and adjusting schedules and staffing levels.
- Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes, and product knowledge to team members.
- Lead a team to deliver quality products, high service levels, and excellent customer experiences.
- Serve as a Key Carrier and/or act as a Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- 1 year of managerial or supervisory experience, including responsibility for managing a department/team within a multi-department operation in the retail, hospitality, or service industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to take and give direction and participate in a team environment.
- Outgoing and friendly behavior with a positive attitude.
- Ability to interact with customers.
- Proven leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff.
- Working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
- Strong focus on detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Maintain Food Safety certification.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company regulations for product freshness, food safety, weights and measures, store safety, employee safety, refrigeration, and sanitation.
- Strong organization and planning skills; able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to vertically transfer milk trays weighing up to 60 lbs. from 9” to 62” for up to 25 hours.
- Ability to vertically/horizontally transfer boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. from 5” to 34” for a distance up to 5 feet for up to 25 hours without mechanical assistance.
- Ability to perform repetitive squatting/kneeling/bending to access a point 5 inches from the floor for up to 30 hours.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Outgoing and friendly behavior with a positive attitude towards Team Members and customers.
