About the Role

Provide quality patient focused care to patients in the Emergency Department under medical directives or direct orders, working within an inter-professional collaborative model and under the supervision of a physician.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient interviews and take medical histories
  • Perform physical examinations and interpret findings
  • Organize laboratory and diagnostic investigations
  • Perform controlled acts under medical directives delegated by a physician
  • Counsel patients on preventive health care
  • Organize patient follow-up
  • Perform other duties within competencies as a physician assistant

Requirements

  • Graduate of the Physician Assistant Bachelors degree at McMaster University or the University of Toronto consortium
  • Certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant
  • Certified or eligible to be certified through the Physician Assistant's Certification Council
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Paediatric Advanced Life Support and Neonatal Advanced Life Support are mandatory
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in both a verbal and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
  • Demonstrated competency to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives
  • Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative medical model of care with all members of the health care team
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record
