About the Role

Code Metal is seeking a Director of Communications to build and lead the company's communications function from the ground up. This role involves establishing strategy, relationships, and operational infrastructure to drive awareness and credibility across government, commercial, and technology markets. The ideal candidate will translate complex technical innovation into compelling narratives for various stakeholders and operate strategically while executing tactically.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the integrated PR strategy across government and commercial verticals.
  • Design and manage a consistent cadence to keep Code Metal in the news cycle.
  • Align PR activity with pipeline goals, product launches, and campaign timing.
  • Help define and evolve Code Metal’s core market narrative.
  • Build relationships with key journalists across AI/ML, defense tech, enterprise software, and national security.
  • Establish coverage in tier-1 targets and key trade outlets.
  • Develop and manage relationships with relevant analysts.
  • Position Code Metal's executives as credible voices on key industry topics.
  • Build and manage Code Metal’s newsroom, blog, and technical content platform.
  • Build scalable executive visibility programs.
  • Secure speaking opportunities at high-value conferences.
  • Ghost-write and place bylines, op-eds, and contributed articles.
  • Identify and pursue strategic awards, rankings, and recognition programs.
  • Manage case studies and customer story development.
  • Stand up the PR function, including agency selection, measurement frameworks, and process creation.
  • Develop a crisis communications playbook.
  • Track and report PR impact tied to meaningful metrics.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship may be required for certain project assignments involving security clearance.
  • Consideration for employment of qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
